American Baptist Churches of RI Contact Person: Sandy Kelly Project: Elder Care Ministries is a multi-faceted, ecumenical outreach to elders in the RI community. ECM programs work at many levels to support elders in their spirituality, personal development and well-being. Through one-on-one contact with elders and families, training of church volunteers and cooperative work with community agencies and institutions, programs are developed and implemented to meet the needs of older adults. Student Involvement: Interns in this program will have the opportunity to design and implement ministry programs for and with elders. They will work cooperatively with lay people and clergy in local churches, volunteers and chaplains in long-term facilities, and various outreach works and community leaders in RI. Their work will involve developing and coordinating outreach and spiritual growth programs, facilitating workshops and support groups, leading worship, and providing pastoral care for institutionalized elders and their families. Programs available for student involvement include Visitation Ministry, Chaplaincy Services, Grandparents Camp, Simeons Ministry (worship in long-term care settings), Spirituality & Creative Arts, Volunteer Services and other programs developed by the student and director. Exposure to culture change in long-term care is also available. Arts of Ministry Competencies: Preaching and Worship. Pastoral Care and Counseling. Religious Education and Spiritual Development. Administration and Program Development. Public Leadership, Community Organizing and Planning. Denominational Polity. Supervision: Regularly scheduled weekly sessions for theological reflection with supervisor. Number of Students: 1 Total Stipend: $4,000.00 Type of Stipend: work study (sc 1000) Notes: A car is required for transportation. |
