67 Main Street Contact Person: Susan Bell Project: The AIDS Project of Southern Vermont is a regional AIDS service organization that provides direct services to people living with HIV/AIDS, and HIV prevention services to those at most risk in Southern Vermont including gay and bisexual men and women at heterosexual risk. Founded by volunteers in 1988 as a grassroots, community-based group, the AIDS Project now fills an important statewide role in making sure that Vermont's fight against the AIDS epidemic is strong and effective. Our mission is to provide direct services to those whose lives are affected by HIV/AIDS, to offer education about HIV/AIDS to help prevent its spread, and to promote understanding within the communities served. Student Involvement: Students support APSV HIV Prevention Programs by working directly with prevention clients (shadowing staff and assisting at peer outreach trainings, outreach interventions and safer sex workshops), developing and producing a newsletter; carring out needs assessments (involving social mapping and community demographic analysis); carrying out HIV research on rural areas; and maintaining a database and other documentation of program activities. Arts of Ministry Competencies: Administration and Program Development. Public Leadership, Community Organizing and Planning. Supervision: Student meets for supervision one hour per week.
