Project: At Sherrill House we are committed to the principle of our motto "Diligunt Sanant" or "They Who Care, Heal." We are committed to spiritual and religious support for our residents. We are an independent, not-for-profit, skilled nursing and rehabilitation center for seniors and other needing our specialized care. We are located in the vibrant Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. We are an extension of the ministry of Trinity Church Boston, located in Copley Square, and the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. Our website has information on our rich history. We are proud of our tradition of caring and excellence for seniors and we remain committed to continuously improving our staff, services and programs to best meet the needs of those we serve.

Sherrill House is a non-sectarian, racially and culturally diverse facility where religious faith and spiritual practices are important for most of our residents. Most residents want to see a chaplain and so there are many varied opportunities to minister. We have a high percent of staff who are also religious. Ministry here can help students learn how to be comfortable with and minister to seniors, learn ministry to residents who are dying and to their families, minister to seniors with Alzheimer’s and related dementias and use talents in music and other arts. The residents teach us much about God, faith, life and dealing with aging and decline, thus ministering to us as well. Ministry here will dispel myths and fears about seniors particularly those in nursing home, help students examine their beliefs, fears and anxieties about aging and to incorporate this learning into their spiritual lives. The long term relationships with residents enhances the quality of their lives and ours.

Student Involvement: Most of the student's time will be spent in Pastoral Care and Counseling in individual visits with residents. Also there is Preaching and Worship and spiritual/religious group creation and/or leading. Singing and playing instruments including the piano and guitar.
