Project: Put Faith to Work has a 13-week inner-city faith based entrepreneurship program geared toward helping inner-city residents to start their own businesses as a form of alleviating urban poverty. The program is made up of 13, 3 hour weekly classes, supplemented by peer support groups, mentoring, and access to financing. Demand for the program has been very high with approximately 300 students involved in the most recent class. The classes are taught by Leonardo Radomile and the Rev. Gerald Bell.

In order to meet increasing demand and move the project to a wider audience than Boston, the organization plans to video the 13 classes and put them on the Internet as a video textbook for the course. Classes will then be offered by teleconference, and people will be networked into local support groups wherever they may be. We also plan to do an interfaith version as a pilot project for NPR and hope to recruit some members of the Islamic community to be involved in this.

Student Involvement: Students will have an opportunity to work in the following areas:

* Strategic Planning for this project

* Researching, writing, and/or editing scripts for the video program and radio program

* Scouting locations and facilities for filming

* Creating a high end web page with flash capability

* Research on teleconferencing technology and the creation of national and international teleconferences

* Learning how to create a project, do strategic planning, write a business plan, etc. i.e. learning what the PFTW participants learn.

* Working with religious leaders of different traditions to create an interfaith version of the same project, first for Islamic communities, and then for others.

Once the project rolls out, students will have the opportunity to teach and mentor those enrolled in the program.

Arts of Ministry Competencies: Religious Education and Spiritual Development. Administration and Program Development. Public Leadership, Community Organizing and Planning.
