Phillips Academy is a four-year residential secondary school, founded in 1778. Today, students represent a variety of religious traditions and faith perspectives. Ministry at Phillips reflects a commitment to valuing the school's rich religious, racial, and cultural diversity. Andover's motto, Non Sibi - not for self, and our original Constitution speak to this challenge, charging the Academy to prepare "youth from every quarter" to understand that "goodness without knowledge is weak...yet knowledge without goodness is dangerous." This obligation requires of every student to see beyond themselves and to remain committed to developing what is finest in themselves and in others.
Our institution is coeducational and enrolls approximately 1,200 boarding and day students, all of whom are involved in preparation for entrance to highly competitive colleges and universities.
