Project: Phillips Academy is a four-year residential secondary school, founded in 1778. Today, students represent a variety of religious traditions and faith perspectives. Ministry at Phillips reflects a commitment to valuing the school's rich religious, racial, and cultural diversity. Andover's motto, “Non Sibi - not for self”, and our original Constitution speak to this challenge, charging the Academy to prepare "youth from every quarter" to understand that "goodness without knowledge is weak...yet knowledge without goodness is dangerous." This obligation requires of every student to see beyond themselves and to remain committed to developing what is finest in themselves and in others.

Our institution is coeducational and enrolls approximately 1,200 boarding and day students, all of whom are involved in preparation for entrance to highly competitive colleges and universities.

Student Involvement: A field education student at Phillips will assist in worship services, as well as with various fellowship opportunities, educational programs and community service offerings. Responsibilities will demonstrate the variety of work that is involved in a secondary school chaplaincy program. The student must provide his/her own transportation, and be willing to work during HDS vacation periods, when those vacations occur during the Phillips academic year.

Arts of Ministry Competencies: Preaching and Worship. Pastoral Care and Counseling. Religious Education and Spiritual Development.

Supervision: Student will be supervised by the Director of Spiritual and Religious Life.
