Project: Linden Ponds Retirement Community, part of the Erickson Corporation based in Baltimore, MD is a full service Continuing Care Retirement Community on a beautiful 100-acre campus in Hingham, Mass. We currently have over 1100 persons age 62 and better living with us. We offer Independent Living, Catered Living, Short Term Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.

Our mission statement states: "we share our gifts to create a community that celebrates life." We offer a very active community life which include over 140 Resident-led clubs and organizations as well as a full spectrum of services, including a medical center, fitness center, market and pharmacy, a library, computer lab and a prayer room. Erickson offers a strong focus on the spiritual well-being of our Residents from an interfaith perspective.

Student Involvement: The student would function primarily as the Student Chaplain for Renaissance Gardens, our Skilled/Nursing and Short-term Rehab facility. The Student Chaplain would offer individual Pastoral Care to Residents and their families as well as staff, offer spiritual groups and activities, and be engaged in grief counseling, crisis intervention and end-of-life care. In addition, the Student Chaplain would lead Sunday Worship in our Prayer Room in Independent Living every other week.

We would prefer a student with one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education and/or some background in healthcare ministry as well as someone comfortable working with multiple systems versus a total individual focus.

A benefit of this setting for the Student Chaplain would be the opportunity to take part in cultural and educational events as they are offered to Residents and staff on campus.

Arts of Ministry Competencies: Preaching and Worship. Pastoral Care and Counseling.

Supervision: Ongoing mentoring and daily availability of supervisor as well as a weekly scheduled one hour of formal supervision. It is expected that the student will reflect theologically on her/his practices and experiences. Some reading and written work will be required.

Number of Students:

Total Stipend: $4,000.00

Type of Stipend: work study (sc 0)
