Newton Wellesley Hospital is a 250 bed community hospital and a member of the Partners Healthcare Consortium. Our patients reflect the diverse population of the greater Boston area. We have strong links to local faith communities. Our ministry is interfaith, and we provide pastoral care to people from most of the worlds faith traditions. We also have a strong volunteer and community education component to our program. We are fully accessible.
Student
Involvement: Students will be in ministry in medical specialty areas including; the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, medical surgical, maternity, Special Care Nursery, and pediatric units. Students may specialize in an area. Opportunities for leading worship are available. Didactic sessions include topics such as end of life issues, pastoral care with cancer, stroke and cardiac patients, spiritual assessments, providing spiritual care to people from many religious traditions, ministering with families and exploring faith communities responses to the changing health care needs of congregants.
Arts of Ministry Competencies:
Preaching and Worship.
Pastoral Care and Counseling.
Supervision: Weekly individual supervision is provided on-site. Students are in ministry for 10-12 hours per week on- site and receive 75 hours of travel and off-site preparation time. The Association of Professional Chaplains and the National Association of Catholic Chaplains have accepted this program as an equivalency for one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education. Students seeking this equivalency will need to complete a total of 400 hours.

Notes: The Woodland stop on the Green Line is one block from the hospital. For those traveling by car, free parking is available. There is easy access to the hospital from the Mass. Pike, Rt.128 and Rt. 16.
