89 College Ave. Contact Person: Rev. Molly Baskette Project: First Church Somerville UCC is a dynamic urban congregation with a commitment to community both inside and outside our church. Our congregation is mid-sized (115 members, average of 85 adults and 15 children and youth in worship on Sundays) and diverse (working class, students and young professionals; primarily young adults 20-45). We are an open and affirming church in the United Church of Christ, with a strong commitment to GLBT rights and other social justice issues; we love the arts and music and have a funky, fun sensibility. Within walking distance of Davis Square. The congregation has a strong history of supporting field placement students and others preparing for the ministry. Student Involvement: The specific responsibilities of the position would be shaped by the interests and needs of the particular student. Weekly involvement in Sunday worship is expected. Other opportunities include preaching and worship planning; work with our ministries for children and youth; work with our Monday Night Dinner, a free community meal served at our church each week; coordination of volunteer service projects, and small group-building; young adults ministry; education and spirituality programs for adults or children; pastoral care and visitation. Public Leadership, Community Organizing and Planning. Supervision: Weekly meetings with the supervisor, as well as bimonthly support from a seminarian support committee.
