The church is medium-sized by Unitarian Universalist standards about 500 adult members and active friends and 220+ children and youth. Focus is on ministry in an urban/suburban setting, emphasizing conduct of worship, the various roles of the minister and church organization.. The student is expected to participate in the worship and social life of the church, and become familiar with its programs and outreach. As "student associate," s/he is part of a professional ministerial team.
Student
Involvement: The student is expected to explore the nature of parish ministry as experienced in the concrete situation, and relate insights gained to his/her own sense of vocation. Time is devoted to worship, church activities, committee meetings, the religious education program, sermon preparation and preaching (about three times a year), pastoral calling, and rites of passage as needed.

Supervision: A weekly conference with the senior minister focuses on issues in ministry, with theological dialogue and reflection seeking to link the practice of parish ministry with the academic disciplines being pursued. A seven-member Lay Teaching Committee also meets with the student on a regular basis. Mid-year and final evaluations are made separately by the Supervisor and the Committee.
