Project:
The Project provides a practical education in community service, diversity and stewardship of the land through farming. We work with an educationally, economically, racially and ethnically diverse group of teens from the city and suburbs of Boston and the North Shore. We grow 250,000 pounds of fresh, high quality vegetables for soup kitchens, homeless shelters, farmers' markets and suburban customers. We reclaim vacant land for food production in Roxbury and farm on 31 acres in Lincoln. There is a strong education and training component to the program, covering varied issues from diversity and leadership development to hunger, nutrition and food security. There is an intense commitment to youth development and teaching young people how to create personal and social change through sustainable agriculture.
