"Solutions: Emerging Trends in Community Transformation" is an ongoing working conference,
started in February 2007, with the goal of developing grassroots projects for revitalizing urban communities.
Participants share stories of the challenges and opportunities they face in their neighborhoods, hear from experienced practitioners,
and then brainstorm to create new plans. Resulting proposals are evaluated by
judges, and five finalists a year are nominated to put plans into action, with a
stipend linked to the result.
This year, participants will hear progress reports from the people whose
plans were chosen in February 2007, and then turn to strategizing anew. The
objective of the "Solutions" conference is not simply to communicate ideas about
community transformation, but also to involve those attending in networking and
in challenging one another to be innovative. (View
last year's conference.)
These conferences are made possible by a generous grant from the Skees Family Foundation.
