The mission of the Office of Student Life is to create an intellectually and
socially engaged campus community by supporting student leadership, encouraging
involvement and programming, and providing a network of support for all
students. Our goals are to support programming that will enrich the
intellectual, spiritual, and vocational development of students; to create
opportunities for intellectual and social connection; to expand the appreciation
of human diversity; and to be an excellent resource for students with concerns
or difficulties.
To meet these goals, the Office of Student Life serves many
functions within the Harvard Divinity School community. Among our programs and
activities are:
- conducting orientation to welcome new students
- providing recognition, advising, and support to
student organizations and Life Together, the
Student Association of HDS
- providing programming and services for
international students
- assisting with the resolution of student concerns through counseling,
referral, advocacy, and dispute resolution
- administering the diversity fund and student initiatives fund to support
student programming efforts
- providing writing and academic support services
- coordinating reduced-fare T-passes and student lockers and mailboxes
Community Tea
Most Tuesdays during the fall and spring terms, the Office of Student Life hosts a community tea, a chance for students, faculty, and staff to engage in conversation over a cup of
tea or punch. A table of goodies is spread with tea sandwiches, fruit, and sweets. It is a time to relax, refuel, and connect with friends.
The Nave
The Nave Online is a weekly student publication that gathers information
for and about the Harvard Divinity School community. It publicizes events and
opportunities at HDS, around the University, and in the surrounding Boston area.
It is available through the intranet to students, faculty, and staff. The
2008-09 editor, Matthew Hotham, can be contacted at
nave@hds.harvard.edu.
