Non-Harvard Housing

Most Divinity School students rent apartments from private landlords in Cambridge, Somerville, or one of the surrounding communities. Prices and quality vary. Preliminary searching can be done online, but we strongly advise students to see an apartment in person before making a commitment. We recommend that students begin apartment hunting in early summer for the following fall.

Advantages: The private market offers greater variety and flexibility, and in many cases will yield more affordable options than Affiliated Housing.

Getting Started

The Harvard Housing Office (in addition to administering Affiliated Housing) maintains an online database with listings of hundreds of rental units offered by private landlords and real estate agents, and this database can be searched at no cost from any computer with internet access: HRES Apartment Source Website.

The Harvard Housing Office also maintains listings of roommate and sublet opportunities, also available on the World Wide Web: HRES Roommate Center.

Those without access to the Web can request listing from the Harvard Housing Office by email at hhousing@harvard.edu. Those with questions are welcome to call the Housing Office at 800.252.5020 or 617.495.3377, or to visit the office at 7 Holyoke Street in Harvard Square.

As well, please refer to the Office of Student Life Housing Links page.

Harvard International Office

Among other services, the Harvard International Office offers some housing assistance to international students. For information go to their website. They can be reached by telephone at 617.495.2789, or write to the Harvard International Office, 864 Holyoke Center, Cambridge, MA 02138.
