Bernd U. Schipper is Professor ("Ordinarius") for Old Testament at the Faculty of Theology of Humboldt University in Berlin. He received his ThD in Old Testament Studies from the University of Bonn and his PhD in Egyptology from the University of Hamburg. In 2007 he was visiting professor for religious studies at Ruprecht-Karls University Heidelberg and in 2009-2010 visiting scholar at Harvard Divinity School. His research interests include the history of Biblical Israel and the literature of the Hebrew Bible as well as the literature and religion of Pharaonic Egypt and its relationship to Ancient Israel. He is currently working on commentary on the book of Proverbs for the Hermeneia Biblical Commentary Series and recently edited the volume "Wisdom and Torah" in collaboration with Andrew Teeter, Associate Professor of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Harvard Divinity School (Supplement to the Journal for the Study of Judaism, Brill, September 2013).
