Shared Saints and Festivals Among Jews, Christians, and Muslims in the Mediterranean 1100-1750
This project analyzes three interrelated aspects of women's spirituality in the medieval and early modern Mediterranean: shared religious rituals among Jewish, Christian, and Muslim women; the adoption of masculine or feminine identity by both women and men for these rituals or in pursuit of a higher spiritual state; and the masculine discourses that developed around feminine identity, whether biological, adopted, or rhetorically imposed.
