An ethnobiography and family history of Alourdes Champagne (Mama Lola), a Vodou priestess living and working in Brooklyn as the spiritual head of a large and diverse community of Haitian immigrants. A case study of a woman religious leader and of the role of religion in situations of conflict, oppression, and rapid social change.
