Gender, Religion, and Socio-Economic Transitions in the Muslim Republics of the Former Soviet Union: The Case of Azerbaijan
This is a study of the impact of recent changes, including re-Islamicization, on women's role and status in these newly independent Muslim republics. The linkages between the present quest for a new national identity, religion, and reconstruction of gender roles will be explored.
