Program in Religion and Secondary Education

Welcome to the website of Harvard Divinity School's Program in Religion and Secondary Education.

The PRSE is a unique teacher training program whereby students graduate with a master's degree in religious studies and a license to teach in one of several middle and secondary school disciplines, with the special expertise to teach about the academic study of religion within their field. The program, founded in 1972 and now directed by Diane L. Moore, Professor of the Practice in Religious Studies and Education, has continued to attract a diverse array of exceptional students who are dedicated to middle and secondary school education. We are also committed to providing resources and training for current teachers through our mentor teacher program, conferences, and continuing education opportunities. In the area of research, we recently launched a national qualitative online study entitled the Harvard Divinity School Study on Teaching About Religion in the Schools (H-STARS) to learn more about where the study of religion is currently incorporated in middle and secondary schools and what resources teachers are utilizing.

Please enjoy browsing the site to learn more about the PRSE and its resources. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
