Myth and Myth-Making in the Biblical and Ancient Near Eastern World

Description
An exploration of the nature and function of myth in the context of the ancient Near East. The course will focus on selected mythic texts from various Near Eastern cultures and consider them in the light of general approaches to myth developed in Western scholarship. Particular attention will be given to the issue of myth in the Hebrew Bible. No knowledge of the ancient languages involved is assumed.
