HDS 1548
Pregnancy, Birth, and the Bible
Tania Oldenhage
Description
This course explores feminist discourses on pregnancy and birth and their implications for biblical studies. Focusing on a range of biblical birth stories and metaphors, we explore how experiences of pregnancy and childbirth are represented, interpreted and socially regulated. Special attention will be given to the ways in which women's birth experiences have been compared to Jesus' suffering on the cross.
