Medieval Torah Commentary - A Practical Introduction: Seminar

Description
An introduction to the use of the Jewish biblical commentaries of the Middle Ages as a resource for the modern exegete. Primary readings to include a chapter of the Torah with the comments of several of the following figures: Rashi, Rashbam, Ibn Ezra, Radaq, Ramban, and Seforno. Some discussion of the relationship of the hermeneutical presuppositions of these figures to those of the distinctively modern forms of biblical study. Prerequisite: three years of college level Hebrew (any period) and a secure knowledge of Hebrew grammar.
