New Testament Ethics and Rhetoric: Seminar

Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza

Description

This seminar will focus on both the reconstruction of ethical discourses in the Christian Testament and on the ethics of interpretation. Special attention will be given to how political notions have shaped the theological ethos, symbolic worlds, and rhetorical practices of early Christian writings. The course will also explore how scriptural texts and their religio-political rhetoric continue to shape contemporary public discourses. Concern will be given to the contributions of feminist analyses and liberationist frameworks to the discussion of biblical ethos and ethics. Prerequisite: Introduction to the New Testament or the equivalent.
