Religion and Democratic Theory: Seminar

Description
The course will examine the relationship between religious reflection and democratic theories of various types. Among the topics covered will be: liberal political theory and theological critique, religious practice and radical democratic theory, cultural/religious diversity and religious truth-claims, religion and public life, and feminist theory and democratic practice. Included in the course will be consideration of religion and democratic theory in cross-cultural perspective. Among the authors considered will be Seyla Benhabib, Dipesh Chakrabarty, Ernesto Laclau, Chantal Mouffe, Reinhold Niebuhr, Martha Nussbaum, John Rawls, Adoulkarim Saroush.
