Description

This seminar will survey the leading representative of the movement known as "the new theology" that was the theological context and impetus to Vatican II. The following authors will be discussed: Blondel, Rousselot, Marechal, de Lubac, Congar, Bouillard, Chenu, Rahner, and von Balthasar. The focus will be on three themes in this literature: the relation between faith and reason, nature and grace, and the desire for and knowledge of God. Reference will be made to its role in contemporary theological debates.
