Children's Literature and Religious Education: Seminar

Description
This course will explore the place of the practice of reading in children's religious lives and consider the role of religious communities in protecting and nourishing this practice. The course will also explore religious accounts of childhood and how these are reflected or critiqued in literature for children and in practices of religious education. The course will focus on the writings of two or three authors (for example, C.S. Lewis, Philip Pullman, Virginia Hamilton, and David Almond), considering the accounts of childhood and religion in their work and the place of their books in the shaping of childrens religious lives.
