HDS 2987
Faith-Based Economic Development
Charles G. Adams
Description
This course will examine the opportunities and dangers of religiously-based economic development in a capitalistic economy. When churches and religions venture beyond sacerdotal matters of celebration, indoctrination, inspiration, and motivation to the creation of institutions that provide goods and services to enhance neighborhoods and build communities, they need help in maintaining some sort of balance between the spiritual and secular engagements of religion. We will use case studies and other accountings to provide the understanding necessary to learn from the experiences of those communities that have spawned economic-development projects and institutions.
