Mosques in Muslim History

Description
The course will provide an introduction into the Qur'anic foundation of basic aspects of the Muslim cult. It will treat the multidimensional functions that different types of mosques have performed for urban and rural communities over the centuries. It will discuss the changes in these functions in different regions and historical periods and will, in the last two sessions, be dedicated to the situation of mosques in the European and American diaspora.
