The Poetics of Midrash: Approaches to Rabbinic Hermeneutics

Description
This seminar examines the forms and content of late ancient rabbinic midrash or biblical interpretation. Each session will include consideration of both primary sources and recent scholarship. The course will center on studies of midrash as a form of literature by Boyarin, Fishbane, Fraade, Kugel, Stern and Yadin. Note: Languages--Two years of Hebrew, any period, is strongly recommended.
