MDiv Distribution Categories and Arts of Ministry

MDiv students are required to distribute their courses among three distribution categories:

  • Three courses within the theories, methods, and practices of scriptural interpretation in the tradition in which they are preparing to minister (SI);
  • Six courses within the histories, theologies, and practices of the tradition in which they are preparing to minister (HTP);
  • Three courses within a religious tradition other than the one in which they are preparing to minister (OR).

See Course Listings by MDiv Distribution Category for a list of the courses in each category.

N.B.: Courses that are classified as two or more religious traditions may only count as an HTP or a comparative course toward an MDiv student's other religion requirement.

All MDiv students are also required to demonstrate proficiency in three arts of ministry by directly linking a ministerial art course with at least one field education experience. See Course Listings by MDiv Art of Ministry for a list of ministerial art courses.

Complete information on MDiv requirements will be available in the 2009-10 Handbook for Students.
