2007-08 Academic Calendar

Fall Semester | Spring Semester | Abbreviated Calendar for 2008-09

Fall Semester 2007

SEPTEMBER 10, MONDAY
  • New Student Orientation begins.

SEPTEMBER 13, THURSDAY

  • New Student Registration: 1 to 4 pm.
    (Note: Students not able to attend fall registration due to religious observance may register Monday of the following week without penalty.)

SEPTEMBER 14, FRIDAY

  • Returning Student Registration: between 9:30 and 11:45 am and 1:30 and 4 pm. Students must register in person. There is a $50 fee for late registration. (Note: Students not able to attend fall registration due to religious observance may register Monday of the following week without penalty.)

  • Language Qualifying Examinations in French (1-2 pm), German (2:15-3:15 pm), and Spanish, Christian Latin, Biblical Hebrew, and New Testament Greek (3:30-4:30 pm), in the Sperry Room, Andover Hall. Students are allowed to bring one dictionary for each language examination taken. All examinations are one hour in length.
    (Note: Students not able to sit for exams due to religious observance may arrange another time by contacting the Director of Languages, Beverly Kienzle, through her assistant, Kathy Lou: 617.495.4265.)

  • Last day for eligible students to waive the Blue Cross/Blue Shield and/or University Health Services Fees.

SEPTEMBER 17, MONDAY

  • Fall term begins. First meeting of classes.
  • Final evaluations for Field Education summer programs due.
  • Convocation, 4 pm, Sanders Theatre. Reception follows on Andover Lawn.

SEPTEMBER 24, MONDAY

  • Study Cards due. Cards must be signed by student's adviser and turned in to the Registrar's Office in person. A $40 late fee will be assessed for study cards handed in on the following day, Tuesday. Each day thereafter a late fee of $10 will be assessed. There is a $10 fee for changes made to a student's course plan after this date.

OCTOBER 4, THURSDAY

  • Drop/Add Deadline: Last day on which students may add or drop a course to their fall semester schedule, or change from audit to credit or vice versa. Courses dropped after this date (and before the ninth Tuesday - November 13) will remain on the student's transcript with the notation of "dropped" and will count toward the total number of courses attempted. A $10 fee will be charged.

  • Last day to cross-register for courses within the University or the Boston Theological Institute. If the other school's cross-registration deadline is earlier, it must be met.

OCTOBER 8, MONDAY

  • Columbus Day: University holiday.

NOVEMBER 12, MONDAY

  • Veterans' Day: University holiday.

NOVEMBER 13, TUESDAY

  • Grading Option Change and Course Withdraw Deadline. Last day to change a course from SAT/UNSAT grading option to Letter Grade or vice versa, or to withdraw from a course. A $10 fee will be charged.

NOVEMBER 22, THURSDAY - NOVEMBER 25, SUNDAY

  • Thanksgiving recess.

NOVEMBER 26, MONDAY

  • Last day to apply for March graduation.
  • March ThM degree candidates must submit theses to Registrar's Office.

DECEMBER 18, TUESDAY

  • Last day of fall classes.

DECEMBER 19, WEDNESDAY

  • Last day to apply for June graduation.

DECEMBER 19, WEDNESDAY - JANUARY 1, TUESDAY

  • Winter recess.

JANUARY 2, WEDNESDAY

  • Incomplete work from spring semester 2007 is due in the Registrar's Office.

JANUARY 2, WEDNESDAY - JANUARY 13, SUNDAY

  • Fall reading period.

JANUARY 14, MONDAY - JANUARY 23, WEDNESDAY

  • Fall semester final course examinations.

JANUARY 21, MONDAY

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: University holiday.

JANUARY 23, WEDNESDAY

  • Last day to file an Incomplete Grade Agreement for a fall semester course (forms available in the Registrar's Office).

JANUARY 29, TUESDAY

  • German, French, and Spanish qualifying examinations given at 1 pm in Andover 102 and 103.

  • Grades due in the Registrar's Office from HDS instructors for fall semester courses.

Spring Semester 2008

JANUARY 30, WEDNESDAY

  • Spring semester begins; First meeting of classes. Registration for all new and returning students Wednesday and Thursday.

JUNE 4, WEDNESDAY

  • Alumni/ae Day.
  • Graduation Worship Service at 4 pm.

JUNE 5, THURSDAY

  • Commencement.
