19 Praying Our Lives
Installment III, with Eric Swanfeldt, AB '54, BD '59, and Fellow Pilgrims, "Praying with Our Feet: A Conversation with the New England Peace Pilgrims"
noon-1 pm, Common Room, Center for the Study of World Religions

Join us for a conversation with peace pilgrims who are walking throughout New England in the fall of 2009. Their message of simple living, embodied in their travel by foot, is captured in their principal claim: "The way we live now is not sustainable." They are walking to ask the nation to commit to equality, justice, peace and sustainability. All along their route, the pilgrims are asking the people they meet, "What is the deepest desire of your heart for yourself, your family, your community, your country and the world?" Inspired by the 1955 South African Peace Charter, created by the ANC through community conversations in the worst days of apartheid, the New England Peace Pilgrims have created their own Peace Charter, which they will discuss and share with us as they seek our own contributions to this living document.

Praying Our Lives is a continuing series, offered each fall by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, featuring speakers from a variety of perspectives and professions and a diversity of religious traditions. Our guests offer presentations on contemplative practices that connect us to the Ultimate and the Intimate, with particular attention to the role they play in the pursuit of the common good.
