Scholarship |
The scholarship of the Program is disseminated in a variety of ways. As a result of their year at Harvard, the research associates publish books and articles; in the course of the twenty years the Program has been in existence, a substantial body of published research has been amassed as a direct result of the program. Scholars from the Program have published books on such topics as the history of the institution of motherhood in the Christian West from the Middle Ages to the reformations; the influence of biblical texts on cultural images and self-images of women; American Catholics and abortion policy and politics; the Great Bliss Queen and the image of female divinity in Buddhism; models of feminine virtues in the Islamic tradition; the religious bases of the social reform movements of nineteenth-century American women; ethical and religious perspectives of African-American women; the response of contemporary religious communities to the feminization of poverty; the religious lives of Jewish women in modern Europe and ancient Israel; and the ethics of reproduction. Also, during their time at Harvard the scholars design and teach new courses related to their research projects, and offer a series of lectures in the spring. A bibliography of works by WSRP Research Associates, Advisory Committee members, and HDS faculty is available in publications. Links offers additional information from other sources. |
