## Housing at HLS

The Office of Student Life at Harvard Divinity School will operate two floors of single rooms in dormitory housing in Holmes Hall on the Harvard Law School (HLS) for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year.

###    Are there other housing options available at Harvard?  expand\_more  

Yes, [Harvard University Housing (HUH)](https://www.huhousing.harvard.edu/housing-services/other-housing-options#other-harvard-housing) offers information and resources on other housing options throughout Cambridge, Somerville, Boston, and the surrounding areas. Most apartments operate on a fixed-term lease at market rate rents and include all utilities. Unlike on-campus housing, spouses, domestic partners, children, parents, and siblings are allowed to live in HUH apartments. HUH may also be available for faculty and staff.

Friday, May 8, noon. To secure a room, returned license agreements are due at noon on Friday, May 22.

 



 

 

 



###    If I submit my application on the first day the application opens, will I be guaranteed a room?  expand\_more  

No. All applications that are received by the priority deadline (Friday, May 1, 12 pm) will be entered into a lottery and randomly selected. All applications received after the deadline will be given consideration in the order received, if space becomes available.

A meal plan is not required, but students should consider the [GradPlus meal plan](https://www.dining.harvard.edu/graduate-professional-dining/meal-plans).

Communal kitchens are equipped with refrigerators, stove/oven, microwaves, and toasters.

Gender-specific and gender-inclusive bathrooms options are available in the Gropius Complex and vary by floor.

These HLS dormitories are not ADA accessible. If you require certain housing accommodations due to a disability or medical related issue, we encourage you to notify <accessibility@hds.harvard.edu> as soon as possible to discuss your housing needs.

 



 

 

 



###    Does HLS Housing accommodate partners, children, or pets?  expand\_more  

No. The residence hall provides single occupancy rooms for individual students and cannot accommodate partners, children, or pets.

 



 

 

 



###    Is insurance required?  expand\_more  

All students will be required to purchase personal property insurance from CSI Insurance Agency, Inc. each semester. Coverage will commence each year on August 1st and will terminate each year on July 31st the following year. There is no option to opt out of purchasing this personal property insurance, even if a student already has coverage.

 



 

 

 



###    What are the cancellation and rates policies?  expand\_more  

Students may cancel by June 15, 2026 without charge. Cancellation requests received after June 15th will be charged a fee according to the following schedule. All fees are applied to the student’s term bill.

- Cancel before 11:59pm (EDT) June 30th = $1,000 cancellation fee and no room fee.
- Cancel AFTER 11:59pm (EDT) June 30th = $2,500 cancellation fee and no room fee.
- Cancellations received after fall classes begin, the room fee remains on the student’s account.

 



 

 

 



###    What is the fee and billing process?  expand\_more  

Housing charges will be applied to the term bill at the beginning of each semester. The total charge for the duration of the license is $9,336 ($4,668 per semester). As a reminder, students may arrange a monthly payment plan for their term bill. Students living in HLS housing are required to purchase rental insurance at an additional $120. Any fine for lockout or lock replacement fees will be charged to the term bill.

 



 

 

 



###    What are the move-in and move-out dates?  expand\_more  

- Move-in for first-year student residents is August 20, 2026, 9am-3pm.
- Move in for all continuing students is August 20 or 31, 2026, 9am-3pm.
- Any exceptions to this schedule will only be made upon approval by the Office of Student Life. Early move-in arrangements cannot be accommodated.
- Move-out for graduating students is June 1, 2027, at noon.
- Move-out for non-graduating students is May 21, 2027 at noon.
