The recently released documentary *Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am*, is an artful and intimate meditation on the legendary storyteller. The film examines Morrison's life, works, and the powerful themes she has confronted throughout her literary career. It features interviews with Morrison and a number of her peers, critics, and colleagues, including HDS’s [Davíd Carrasco](/people/david-carrasco), Neil L. Rudenstine Professor of the Study of Latin America.

"It was impressive how she would fall into this deep awareness of what she was looking at. That’s the way I’ve noticed her over the years," Carrasco says of Morrison in *[The Wall Street Journal](https://www.wsj.com/articles/toni-morrison-unseen-and-unsung-a-brief-oral-history-11561033800)*. The documentary has been [praised](https://www.kunc.org/post/toni-morrison-pieces-i-am-not-your-typical-documentary-film#stream/0) in [multiple reviews](https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2019/06/new-toni-morrison-documentary/592300/).

Directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, the film is playing nationwide. Locally, it can be seen at the [Coolidge Corner Theatre](https://coolidge.org/films/toni-morrison-pieces-i-am) and the [Kendall Square Cinema](https://www.landmarktheatres.com/boston/kendall-square-cinema/film-info/toni-morrison-the-pieces-i-am).
