Describe the work you do today:

As an executive search consultant and leadership advisor, I help organizations both in the private and nonprofit sectors to recruit and assess C-level talent. I focus on chief executive officer and technology officer (e.g., chief technology, chief digital, or chief information officer) recruiting and maintain a diverse client portfolio of private equity-backed portfolio companies at the intersection of education, healthcare, and technology-enabled services, as well as universities and other education-focused nonprofits.

How has your HDS degree influenced your career journey?

HDS opened so many doors—both socially and professionally. By happenstance, I decided to stay in Boston after graduation and quickly entered businesses that aligned with my core personal drivers—valuing intellectual curiosity, service, and a fast-paced, social work environment. (Self-admittedly, I get bored very easily, so a growth environment with ambitious colleagues was essential.)

At first when entering the workforce, I fumbled a few interviews, but a very gracious interviewer offered feedback: "Craft your story. Help others understand the skills and knowledge that you bring to the table." She was right! Quickly, I was able to articulate the value gained through years of research and writing and to share how my studies contributed to a good understanding of human behavior, which I then translated into client service and executive assessment.

What career advice would you offer to current HDS students?

Be open and curious about the myriad possibilities after graduation. Align your passion with organizations doing impactful work in the world; explore where your unique skillsets can fit in. There is no one path post-HDS. Reach out to alumni and ask for time and advice. They are generous people who want to see you succeed.
