Jessica Rosenberg, MDiv '20, has sprinkled pieces of relevant text, in both Hebrew and English, throughout a new exhibit at the Osher Marin JCC in the Bay Area to root the artists’ thematic explorations to their biblical basis.

"Historically, art has expressed faith and religion. At times in history, when a lot of folks didn’t read, art provided the narrative and the message of the Bible, Koran, etc," says MTS candidate and artist Denise Penizzotto.

Ann Braude, director of the Women's Studies in Religion Program, explores the importance of spirituality in modern art and its influence in the work of twentieth-century abstract artists Vicci Sperry and Hilma af Klint.

"We spend a lot of time in denial that we are going to die. With all the choices that we make, how many would we revise and do differently if we were aware that we are mortal?"
